Make Mental Health Matter with Kelli Melissa Reinhardt: Pride Month: Choosing Compassion Over Judgment
Published 6 days, 22 hours ago
Description
Pride Month: Choosing Compassion Over Judgment As Pride Month comes to a close, I wanted to share something deeply personal. In this episode, I talk about why supporting the LGBTQIA+ community is important to me, not only personally but as the founder of Make Mental Health Matter. I share my story of becoming an ally and why creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and accepted is at the heart of our mission. We explore how our beliefs shape the way we treat other people. While we may not all agree on every belief or lifestyle, we can still choose respect, kindness, and compassion. Acceptance doesn't require agreement. It requires recognizing the humanity in one another. I also discuss the importance of protecting the rights of every community, including LGBTQIA+ rights, marriage equality, and women's rights. No one should have the power to take away another person's fundamental rights or dignity. I reflect on Make Mental Health Matter's involvement with Denver Pride over the past several years. Although we weren't selected to participate this year, I'll still be proudly walking the Pride 5K on Saturday and attending the Pride Parade on Sunday because showing up as an ally doesn't depend on having a booth. It depends on having a heart. Too often, judgment comes from fear of what we don't understand. But imagine what our communities could look like if we chose curiosity over criticism and compassion over condemnation. If we gave people the freedom and space to be authentically themselves, how much better could this world become? At the end of the day, every one of us wants the same basic things: to be loved, to be accepted, to feel safe, and to know we belong. When we start there, we realize we have far more in common than what divides us. My message is simple. Treat every human being with respect. Lead with compassion. Choose kindness over judgment. Love who you love. Be who you are. You do you, boo. Because everyone deserves to belong. I am proud to be an ally, today, tomorrow, and always. Thank you for being part of a community that believes every person deserves dignity, compassion, and hope. Together, we can build a world where mental health truly matters, and where everyone has the freedom to live authentically and know they belong.
