אבות פ"ו מ"ח: "הנוי והכח והעושר וכו' נאה לצדיקים ונאה לעולם . . אלו שבע מדות . . כולם נתקיימו ברבי ובניו". וצ"ל: 1) הרי "מאי דהוה הוה"! 2) איך יכול כל א' ללמוד מזה ש"נתקיימו ברבי ובניו" ש"מי ידמה לו"?! אלא זהו הדיוק שנק' כאן לא "רבי יהודה הנשיא" או "רבינו הקדוש" אלא "רבי ובניו", שמזה מובן שכל א' שהולך באורחותיו אשר הורנו והוא "רבי" שלו, הרי הוא מ"בניו" ("בניך אלו התלמידים") ויכול להתקיים בו שבע מדות אלו! וההוראה לכל א' מזה ש"כולם נתקיימו ברבי ובניו": בנוגע להפצת התורה והיהדות צריך כל א' הראוי להוראה – ובפרט עפ"י הוראת נשיא דורנו להפיץ התורה והיהדות גם לאלו שלא מבינים לה"ק ואידיש, ואפי' לקטנים שבקטנים – להיות "רבי" ולעסוק בהפצת היהדות! ואז מובטח שכל השבע מדות אלו ש"נאה לצדיקים ונאה לעולם" יתקיימו בו כ"רבי" (מי שבדרגא זו) או כ"בניו" (מי שבדרגא זו).

The Mishna states in Pirkei Avos states (6:8): “Beauty, strength, wealth, honor, wisdom, sageness, old age and children are becoming to the righteous and becoming to the world…These seven qualities enumerated by the Sages for the righteous were all fulfilled in Rebbi and his sons.” But seemingly, (1) “What happened, happened”; how is it relevant that these qualities were fulfilled in Rebbi and his sons? Moreover, (2) What is the lesson for an ordinary person from the fact that “they were fulfilled in Rebbi and his sons,” when an ordinary person cannot compare to Rebbi and his sons? The explanation lies in the Mishna’s choice of title here – “in Rebbi and his sons” (rather than “in Rabbi Yehudah HaNasi and his sons” or “in Rabbeinu HaKadosh and his sons”) – which teaches us that anyone whose “Rebbi” is a Rabbeinu Hakadosh (by virtue of following in his ways) is included among “his sons” (“‘Your sons’ – this refers to students”), and therefore these seven qualities can be fulfilled in him as well. Additionally: anyone who is fit to teach others must be a “Rebbi” and involve himself in spreading Torah and Yiddishkeit (especially in light of the directive of the Nasi of our generation to spread Torah and Yiddishkeit even to those who do not understand Hebrew or Yiddish etc.). Then one is assured that all seven qualities, which are “becoming for the righteous and becoming for the world,” will be fulfilled in him, whether as a “Rebbi” or as “his sons,” depending on one’s level.
