A labour of love
Something you do because you genuinely love it, even though it requires a lot of time, effort, or hard work.
Example:
Imagine someone spends months restoring an old family house.
Painting walls. Fixing furniture. Working every weekend.
Not because they’re being paid to do it, but because the place means something to them.
You could say: “Restoring the house was a labor of love.”
