West Island flooding: Is the existing infrastructure to blame?

West Island flooding: Is the existing infrastructure to blame?

Published 1 day, 7 hours ago
Description

It’s been just over a week since intense storms dumped roughly 150 millimetres of rain on Montreal’s West Island, triggering major flash flooding in Dollard-des-Ormeaux and surrounding communities. Since then, residents have been dealing not only with damaged homes and basements, but also with piles of soaked debris, drywall, furniture, and garbage lining the streets as cleanup efforts continue.
City officials say the scale of the damage is significant, and full cleanup could take several weeks, with crews from neighbouring municipalities now helping to manage the workload. Dollard-des-Ormeaux Mayor Alex Bottausci spoke to Andrew Carter.
