In Direct Israel-Iran Clashes, an American citizen in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of maintaining contact with Iranian intelligence operatives and carrying out paid assignments that included photographing sensitive sites in Israel, the Israel Police and Shin Bet announced on Tuesday. A prosecutor’s statement was filed, signaling that an indictment and a request to keep him in custody until the end of proceedings are expected in the coming days. The suspect was arrested on June 9. Investigators said that in the months before his arrest, the suspect allegedly maintained contact with operatives acting for Iranian intelligence and carried out several assignments involving documenting and photographing sensitive sites. He allegedly received payments ranging from tens to hundreds of dollars per mission. The detention has been extended periodically by the court during the investigation, which began after indications from international security bodies.
