He’s a pastor of a small Baptist Church and also an assistant professor of political science at Eastern Illinois University. He is the author of The Nones: Where They Came From, Who They Are, And Where They Are Going. The book does a deep statistical dive into the increasing number of Americans that have no religious affiliation. In this interview, we discuss how he balances being a pastor and a social scientist, why there has been a tremendous increase of religiously unaffiliated Americans, why men are leaving religion in much higher percentages than women, why he thinks this trend is unstoppable, the role of secularization and politics in this trend, and much more.
