In an earlier age, there were 'homes' for girls who were considered a problem, who were unwed and pregnant, who were foster kids/orphans. The story is set in Buffalo, NY during the 1960s, but we can find relevance to what we see in our world today within the text. It is a tough subject, but it is life, and it shares stories of hope, or strength, solidarity, and breaking free. The paperback version comes out just in time for summer reading, whatever form that takes for each of us, namely as a prime read for book groups.
