The warning follows the rare "seismic doublet" that struck northern Venezuela on June 24, 2026: two powerful earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 occurring just 39 seconds apart. Doublets are uncommon and can leave the surrounding fault system under stress, increasing the likelihood of a prolonged aftershock sequence.
