Af: Die wind waai ysig om die hoërskool in Johannesburg.
En: The wind blows icy around the high school in Johannesburg.
Af: Binne die biblioteek flikker ligte stadig aan en uit.
En: Inside the library, lights flicker slowly on and off.
Af: Sarel sit by sy gunsteling tafel, naby die ou, gedagte-volle rakke.
En: Sarel sits at his favorite table, near the old, thought-filled shelves.
Af: Vir hom is die biblioteek meer as net 'n stil plek; dit is 'n skatkis van geheime en verhale.
En: For him, the library is more than just a quiet place; it is a treasure chest of secrets and stories.
Af: "Jakob," fluister Sarel oor sy skouer terwyl hy kyk hoe sy vriend nader kom, "iets is verkeerd hier."
En: "Jakob," Sarel whispers over his shoulder as he watches his friend approach, "something is wrong here."

En: "I heard Annelie complaining about a missing rare book. But no one knows where it is," answers Sarel with a glint of excitement in his eyes.
Af: Jakob staar na die rakke. "Is jy seker ons moet snuffel? Wat as ons in die moeilikheid beland?"
En: Jakob stares at the shelves. "Are you sure we should snoop? What if we get into trouble?"
Af: Sarel knik ernstig. "Ons het nie veel tyd nie. Die biblioteek maak binnekort toe vir opknappings."
En: Sarel nods seriously. "We don't have much time. The library will soon close for renovations."
Af: Die twee vriende staan op en loop versigtig na Annelie se kantoor. Annelie sit agter haar lessenaar met 'n bekommerde uitdrukking. Sy kyk op en sien hulle aankom.
En: The two friends stand up and walk cautiously to Annelie's office. Annelie sits behind her desk with a worried expression. She looks up and sees them coming.
Af: "Sarel, Jakob, kan ek julle help?" vra sy vriendelik.
En: "Sarel, Jakob, can I help you?" she asks kindly.
Af: "Wel," begin Sarel, "ons hoor daar is 'n boek wat ontbreek."
En: "Well," Sarel begins, "we hear there's a book missing."
Af: Annelie se oë verduister. "Ja, dis reg. Dis een van ons skaarsste boeke."
En: Annelie's eyes darken. "Yes, that's right. It's one of our rarest books."
Af: "Mag ons dalk rondkyk om te help soek?" bied Jakob onverwags aan, terwyl hy stadig die pligte van ondersteuning aangeneem het.
En: "May we perhaps look around to help search?" offers Jakob unexpectedly, slowly taking on the duties of assistance.
Af: Annelie aarsel, maar haar liefde vir die boeke en vertroue in die seuns oortuig haar. "Gaan kyk, maar wees versigtig," waarsku sy.
