Tonight I welcomed Paul English, Chris and Patrick for a lively, wide-ranging discussion on what we called the brainwashing of history. We dug into how official narratives are shaped as much by omission as by outright falsehood, and why questioning received wisdom matters whether the subject is the Bible, ancient civilisations, the Vatican archives, the Dead Sea Scrolls, Tartaria, giants, ley lines, the pyramids, Stonehenge or the true roots of British history. As ever, the conversation mixed serious enquiry with a fair bit of irreverence, but the thread running through it all was the same: if we never challenge what we’ve been told, we’ll never get any closer to the truth.

We also strayed into the control of modern institutions, the corruption of organised religion, the manipulation of culture, and the ways old stories continue to shape present politics. Along the way we touched on writers and researchers including Erich von Däniken, Michael Tellinger, Michael Cremo, Anne Carroll, Alan Wilson and Baram Blackett, and reflected on how language, music, myth and scripture can all be used either to wake people up or keep them asleep. If nothing else, this was an invitation to keep reading, keep comparing sources and, above all, keep laughing while doing it.
