In Direct Israel-Iran Clashes, former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar was urgently evacuated from the United Arab Emirates after a warning of a possible Iranian-directed attack on him. Bar and his wife Dafna Bar-Agassi were in the UAE to attend a special security conference hosted by Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The operation was conducted in secrecy, and the couple were flown back to Israel. Channel 12 reported the threat to Bar’s safety linked to Iran, while Channel 13 said the conference was attended by senior security officials from multiple countries. A UAE source denied to Channel 13 that the minister hosted such an event. The affair comes as Israel and the UAE have deepened ties since their 2020 Abraham Accords agreement.
In Regional Impacts, Tyre, Lebanon, remains shaken as residents pick up the pieces but fear renewed Israeli strikes. The historic coastal city has seen a calm after weeks of Israeli airstrikes, with a ceasefire in effect as talks between the US and Iran in Switzerland raise hopes for stabilizing Lebanon. The Lebanese health ministry says more than 4,000 people have been killed in Lebanon since Hezbollah began firing at Israel on March 2, dragging the country into the wider regional conflict. Hezbollah has clashed with Israeli forces as Israel pursues a security zone in southern Lebanon to shield northern communities, and Israel says it has killed more than 2,500 Hezbollah operatives since March 2. The fighting has displaced hundreds of thousands of residents in southern Lebanon. In western Gaza City’s Ramal neighborhood, a drone strike on a white Toyota pickup near Rahab Mall killed two people and wounded several others, underscoring the ongoing volatility in the region.
In Israeli Domestic Politics, the head of a local authority has been detained by Lahav 433’s fraud unit on suspicion of involvement in public corruption. Searches are underway at officials’ homes and authority offices, with additional senior officials summoned for questioning. Enforcement actions are being conducted at several sites within the council’s territory in cooperation with multiple enforcement and supervisory bodies, including the Civil Administration, the Tax Authority, the Electric Company, the Civil Attorney’s Office, the Land Enforcement Authority, and more. The investigation is in its early stages, and further actions are expected. Last week, a well-known soccer player from a top Israeli club was arrested by Lahav 433’s Sports Gambling and Bribery Division as part of an investigation into a Migdal Ha’emek-based gang led by Lahav 43.
In Israeli Economy and Business, Algeria is spending a record $25 billion on its military, a figure that underscores a shift in regional defense postures as Morocco invests about $17.1 billion toward advanced technology and the creation of a domestic defense industry through joint ventures with Israeli firms, including BlueBird Aero Systems. In Spain, lawmakers raised questions about responses to potential Moroccan attacks using Israeli-designed SpyX drones now produced domestically through a joint venture with BlueBird. Anduril Industries is exploring a presence in Israel as defense-tech expansion accelerates, with several candidates shortlisted to manage the company’s operations there and discussions nearing final decisions on whether to enter organically or via acquisitions. The company is pursuing a role with the Ministry of Defense and its research and development activities, as it expands its footprint in the region.
