WA battles bird flu outbreak in Esperance
Published 1 day, 10 hours ago
Description
Western Australia is responding to a bird flu outbreak after detecting the deadly H5 strain of avian influenza in the Esperance region. The first two cases were found in migratory birds, followed by 16 additional reports of unwell birds. WA farmers have implemented voluntary lockdowns of poultry farms as Australia, the last continent previously free of the disease, faces a critical test of its biosecurity measures.
