A man in his 30s of Middle Eastern background was fatally shot near a pole in Ascot Vale, approximately six kilometres north of Melbourne's CBD, shortly after midnight. The victim had just left a nightclub with hundreds of other patrons when he was attacked. Victoria Police homicide squad has established a large crime scene stretching hundreds of metres, with evidence markers, the victim's backpack, and blood visible at the scene, while three cars are also under investigation.
