The Woman Who Bought the House on Salt Wash Lane
Description
February 2020, a few miles inland from the coast, on a road that doesn't appear on any county map. Luna tells the story of Margaret Hoyle, who inherited a house from a great-aunt she never met, sight unseen. The house was cheap, the town was quiet, and the realtor mentioned only one thing: the previous occupant had asked for a very specific kind of lock on the basement door. Margaret thought nothing of it. Then she found the photographs in the attic, all of them taken from the window of the same room, always at night, always showing the same stretch of empty road. And she began to hear the footsteps coming up from the basement at three in the morning, three steps, a pause, three steps again, as if someone was climbing a staircase that shouldn't exist. A story about thresholds, the things that wait on the other side of them, and the terrible patience of locked doors.
