Wilmette Open Water Swim Recap

Wilmette Open Water Swim Recap

Published 15 hours ago
Description

Lake Michigan turned into a stage for charity and competition as the eighth annual Wilmette Open Water Swim drew 160 brave souls to Gillson Beach on June 13th. With calm waters and mild conditions, the one-mile race crowned Matthew Borovik as champion — and not for the first time — while former Olympian Glenn Mills added star power to the cause. More than just a swim, this fundraiser for the Wilmette Foundation raised $14K–$15K annually to support the Wallace Bowl, local scholarships, and even ALS research. Started in 2018 by Phil Andrew and Holly Gilson — both passionate about community and water — the event proves that swimming can be both a personal triumph and a powerful way to give back.
