Honoring the Palomino Legacy
Description
Rosita Elementary is being renamed Frank and Irene Palomino Elementary to honor a courageous family who helped win a landmark 1946 civil rights case that ended school segregation in California—setting the stage for Brown v. Board. For three generations, the Palominos lived near the school and actively supported desegregation. After community efforts began in 2025, the school board and city council joined forces to rename the school and even a nearby park in their honor. When students return in August, they’ll walk into a new chapter—one that celebrates bravery, equality, and the enduring power of one family’s fight for justice.
