Last Action Hero opened June 18, 1993 to so-so reviews and disappointing boxoffice. With Jurassic Park opening a week prior, Cliffhanger still doing strong business, and Clint Eastwood's In the Line of Fire and Harrison Ford's The Fugitive opening later that summer, it was just the wrong time (and the wrong summer movie season) for LAH's quirky, offbeat charm.
