Mother's nine-year battle delivers tougher ride safety laws
Published 5 days, 15 hours ago
Description
New amusement ride safety regulations will come into force across Victoria on 29 July, following a nine-year campaign by Tammy White after her six-year-old son Eugene was killed on a cha-cha ride at Rye Easter Carnival in 2017. All nine recommendations from the coroner's inquest have been accepted, requiring all amusement ride operators to register ride designs, including those built before 1995, and granting WorkSafe the power to immediately shut down any ride that doesn't meet the state's new standards. The coroner found Eugene's death was preventable after he slipped from under the ride's lap bar and sustained fatal head injuries.
