On Being the One They Didn't See Coming | Chaya Krinsky

Published 1Β month ago
Description

Chaya grew up in Long Beach, California, Chabad rabbi's daughter, one of seven, smack in the middle. From thirteen, she had a job: a ninety-minute drive each way to teach Hebrew school. By her twenties she was teaching toddlers in Greenwich, Connecticut, building bulletin boards so elaborate the director asked her to write a curriculum book. She loved it. Then her husband Bruce bought a defunct furniture company. They spotted a gap: nothing in the furniture market was chic, stylish, and affordable. Tov Furniture was born in their basement.

Today Tov is a cult brand. While every competitor hid a shipping container crisis from customers, Chaya and Bruce flew to the ports and shot stories explaining what was actually going on. The customers stayed. The fans multiplied.

And underneath all of it: a personal reclamation. Chaya spent her teenage years hearing she looked like Barbie and spent years trying to prove she was more. Now pink is her signature color, on purpose. She says being a female founder in a male-dominated industry is her biggest superpower.
