Liberty Tree Planted in Taos
Description
Cole County is celebrating America’s 250th birthday by planting symbolic liberty trees — like the one just unveiled in Taos, a young white oak sapling standing just four feet tall but destined to grow tall and proud for generations to come. Inspired by the historic Boston tree that rallied colonists against British rule, these trees are meant to outlast us all, standing as living monuments to our nation’s past and future. Taos Mayor Ron Walker chose the city park for its central location and high visibility, while Clifford Olson of the Sons of the American Revolution says the initiative is sparking patriotism across the county — with 75 people already showing up for a recent planting in Centertown. The big celebration kicks off June 27th with cornhole, food, fireworks, and more — and you can find all the county’s events on the committee’s website.
