Turning Guns Into Garden Tools
Description
In Lancaster County, a powerful community event called Swords to Plowshares turned unwanted guns into garden tools and art—literally transforming weapons of harm into symbols of healing. Inspired by the tragic murder of Kendall Cook, fiancé of organizer Lindsey Martin, and fueled by the personal trauma of a pastor who survived gun violence, the event became a cathartic act of reclaiming control and hope. Volunteers dismantled firearms with hammers and hands, not just disposing of them, but repurposing them into something beautiful and useful—offering closure, creativity, and a profound message: even the most destructive things can be reshaped into something that grows and beautifies.
