Back pain patients don't need scans or opioids
Published 1 week, 3 days ago
Description
Low back pain affects more than 600 million people worldwide, yet many patients receive unnecessary scans and ineffective treatments. Medical imaging like MRIs often show abnormalities that don't correlate with pain and can cause unnecessary worry. Opioid medications, commonly prescribed for back pain, have been shown not to work for this condition and are associated with approximately 1,000 deaths annually in Australia.
