Description
The music box has wound down. Dawn is a breath away. Luna stands in the dark nursery, a razor blade hovering over the leather journal's final page. She knows the ritual now: the playwright's blood and the final actress's blood, mixed on the cursed line. But the playwright is dead, and the blood on her palm is already dry. The doppelganger who claims to be her daughter watches from the rocking chair, whispering names of women who tried before. Luna finds a hidden pocket in the journal containing a lock of hair tied with red thread — Clara's hair, she realizes. The thread leads to a wall panel that opens onto a narrow staircase descending further into the earth. At the bottom, a room with a single oil lamp and a child's bed. On the pillow, a letter in Clara's handwriting, dated the night before her disappearance. Luna reads words that rewrite everything she thought she knew about the curse, about her grandmother, and about the choice she must make. The razor blade is still in her hand. The blood on the page is still fresh. But the final line is not what she expected.
