When a product says Product of Canada, you have no legal right to know what's really in it. And it gets worse. When that GMO ingredient gets ultraprocessed, the modified DNA becomes completely undetectable. No detectable DNA means no label required under American law either. The GMO doesn't just disappear into your food. It disappears into the ultraprocessed ingredient that's already hiding from you. A 9th Circuit ruling from January 2026 begins to close that loophole, but it could be years before it shows up on a single label in your grocery store.
