Police launch program to save teens from Sydney gangs

Published 2 weeks ago
Description
NSW Police have established POLEN (Pacific Officers Law Enforcement Network), Australia's first dedicated program targeting Polynesian youth at risk of recruitment by organised crime gangs in Sydney. The initiative, run by the Police Youth Crime Command at Oran Park, connects at-risk teenagers with their cultural heritage through community programs as an alternative to gang involvement. The program works alongside Taskforce Falcon, which was created to combat escalating gang violence including incidents like the firebombing of alleged Coconut Cartel member Iziah Utai's home.
