Eighteen soldiers were killed in 1996 when two Black Hawk helicopters collided during counter-terrorism training, marking one of Australia's worst peacetime military aviation disasters. A memorial service was held in Townsville today to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the tragedy. Veterans and community members gathered to pay their respects to those who died in the accident.
