Description
Shaping Success: Treasure Valley | David Manery Returns — Operation Chaos, PTSD & Bringing Veterans Together
🇺🇸 From battling PTSD alone to building a community where no veteran has to feel alone, David Manery is turning personal struggles into a mission to help others.
In this episode of Shaping Success: Treasure Valley, Wes Tankersley welcomes back David Manery, founder of Operation Chaos, to discuss how a simple invitation for veterans to meet for coffee has grown into a nonprofit organization dedicated to connection, camaraderie, and community service throughout Idaho’s Treasure Valley.
David opens up about his experiences serving in the Army infantry in Afghanistan, his struggles with PTSD, depression, and anxiety after leaving the military, and the life-changing relationship he shares with his service dog, Chaos.
What started with a veterans meetup where nobody showed up has grown into monthly gatherings bringing together veterans from different military branches, generations, and backgrounds.
In this episode, we discuss:
🇺🇸 Operation Chaos: How David turned his personal need for connection into a growing nonprofit supporting local veterans.
🐕 Chaos the Service Dog: How David’s golden retriever helps him manage PTSD and also brings comfort to others as a certified therapy dog.
🧠 PTSD and Mental Health: The realities of transitioning from military to civilian life, dealing with anxiety, and finding people who understand what you’ve experienced.
🤝 Veterans Supporting Veterans: Why camaraderie, community, and simply showing up for one another can make a tremendous difference.
🏥 Navigating the VA: David shares his frustrations with accessing healthcare, maintaining relationships with providers, and finding consistent mental health support.
❤️ Giving Back: From bowling and miniature golf to partnering with 208 Cleanup to restore Idaho’s public lands, Operation Chaos is creating opportunities for veterans to reconnect while continuing to serve their communities.
💪 Building Something Bigger: David discusses the challenges of starting a nonprofit, finding sponsors, accepting donations, and his vision for expanding Operation Chaos.
David’s message is powerful: Veterans need veterans. Sometimes the most important thing you can do is show up.
Whether you’re a veteran, a military family member, a local business owner, or someone who wants to make a difference, this conversation is a reminder that nobody should have to face life’s challenges alone.
