Marcus Garvey, one of the most influential figures in Black history and the founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, died on June 10, 1940, at age 52. His message of Black pride, economic empowerment and global African solidarity would go on to inspire generations of activists, religious leaders and civil rights advocates.
