We break down Bowers’ story, the discrimination faced by people living with HIV/AIDS during the height of the AIDS crisis, and how Hollywood transformed elements of these experiences into the fictional story of attorney Andrew Beckett. We also examine the controversy surrounding the film’s connection to Bowers and why his family eventually took legal action against the filmmakers.
