Supernatural: Holy Terror (9x09) | Recap & Lore

Season 9 Episode 9 Published 4 months, 2 weeks ago
Description

Supernatural Season 9, Episode 9, Holy Terror recap 💔 A biker gang and a glee club walk into a bar, and the mid-season finale comes for everyone’s throats, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.

The angel turf war between Bartholomew and Malachi escalates fast, Cas shows up with his FBI badge still in hand, and Metatron is lurking in alleyways because Heaven is boring. Meanwhile, Dean’s secret about Sam is about to blow up in his face. Berly and LA were not prepared.

Episode Highlights:

  • A biker gang and a glee club walk into a bar, and only one side walks out
  • Ezekiel gets chatty for 50 straight miles, and Sam wonders whether they just time traveled
  • “Agent.” “Agent.” Cas still has the badge Dean gave him, and he’s tipsy after one beer
  • Curtis Armstrong’s Metatron is back, and he has an offer
  • Angel blades thrown like darts
  • Team Bartholomew vs. Team Malachi, plus wardrobe choices that make it very hard to tell them apart
  • Cas prays in every position and religion he can think of
  • Muriel’s mysterious black eye, and Berly’s beef with the show’s angel-power inconsistencies
  • A tied-up Cas with his shirt open (the hosts approve), and a grace heist
  • A sigil, a secret, and an ending that leave the hosts in shock

The hosts mourn a beloved character, and they’re still reeling. Berly has more complaints than usual, starting with Metatron’s villain pivot, since the book-loving scribe they met suddenly doesn’t care about humans at all. Then there’s the mid-season check-in: too many factions, Abaddon out there with every hunter’s name, Crowley in the basement probably judging everyone, and a certain archangel still missing in action. But both hosts like Season 9 better than Season 8 so far. The gore is minimal, but one pair of burned-out eyes will haunt them.

In the lore segment, Berly covers who guarded the Garden of Eden: the cherubim of Genesis 3:24, with their flaming sword, four faces, and bodies covered in eyes. Very much not the chubby Valentine’s Day kind. In Supernatural, someone else had the job first.

“Sam Winchester. It’s a mess in here. And the brother, I do not know where to start.” – “Ezekiel”
