Box Hill's population boom outpaces infrastructure

Box Hill's population boom outpaces infrastructure

Published 2 weeks, 2 days ago
Description
Box Hill in Sydney's north-west has experienced explosive population growth of 17% compared to Greater Sydney's 1.4%, transforming from a greenfield site to an urban centre now housing thousands of families. Originally zoned for 9,600 homes and 28,000 residents, the suburb is now expected to reach 16,000 dwellings and 50,000 people. The rapid expansion has created severe infrastructure shortages, including congested roads requiring 50-minute bus commutes to metro stations, overflowing car parks, and a temporary demountable school serving more than 12 times its original student numbers, with permanent classrooms still two years away.
