Four masked offenders armed with machetes and a firearm broke into a home on Fairmount Street in Merrylands, partially severing a 21-year-old man's left thumb during a confrontation in front of his family members and an eight-week-old child. This is the second machete attack on a Western Sydney family in three days, following a similar incident in Greenacre where a man's left hand was severed, though police say there is no known connection between the incidents.
