Renowned Australian scientist and melanoma researcher Dr Richard Scolyer has passed away at age 59 in Sydney, surrounded by family. The 2024 Australian of the Year, along with Professor Georgina Long, pioneered world-first melanoma treatments at the Melanoma Institute, saving tens of thousands of lives. Dr Scoglia continued his research and advocacy work even while battling glioblastoma, the brain cancer that ultimately claimed his life after a courageous three-year fight.
