Description
On the anniversary of D-Day, I compared remarks from Pete Hegseth, Ronald Reagan, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Dwight Eisenhower to examine how leaders communicate during moments of remembrance. Reagan focused on the heroism of the Rangers at Pointe du Hoc. Zelensky connected the Allied struggle against tyranny to the defense of freedom today. Hegseth emphasized alliance burdens and modern security challenges. Eisenhower, meanwhile, left behind one of the most remarkable statements of leadership ever written: a note accepting full responsibility if the invasion failed.
