The San Diego Padres finally ended their six-game losing streak with a huge 3-2 victory over the New York Mets at Petco Park.

After losing six straight and nine of their last ten games, the Padres desperately needed someone to step up. Griffin Canning answered the call, allowing just one run over five innings while striking out six and earning his FIRST win as a member of the Padres.

The biggest moment of the night belonged to Freddy Fermin. Entering the game stuck in an 0-for-30 slump and still searching for his first home run of the season, Fermin delivered the swing of the game with a seventh-inning two-run blast that turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 Padres lead.

Fernando Tatis Jr. tied the game earlier with an RBI single, while the bullpen shut down New York late. Adrian Morejon, Bryan Rodriguez, Jason Adam and Mason Miller combined to preserve the victory.

Miller recorded save number 18 and received just his second save opportunity in the Padres’ last 18 games after the club’s recent offensive struggles and losing streak left him with few chances.
