George Washington’s secret beer recipe is getting a modern revival—thanks to the New York Public Library and brewery TALEA. They’re releasing “Liberty Lager,” a tasty, low-alcohol twist on Washington’s 1757 colonial “small beer,” made with bran, hops, molasses, and yeast. Two versions exist: one for the masses, one closer to the original. The library’s also digitized his handwritten recipe. Sip history this summer in NYC.
