Published 2 weeks, 5 days ago
Description
Sergeant Benedict Bryant was sentenced to two years imprisonment under an intensive correction order and 500 hours community service for dangerous driving causing the death of 16-year-old Jai Wright in February 2022. The police officer used his unmarked car to block the Aboriginal teenager at an intersection in Everleigh, despite being specifically told not to pursue the allegedly stolen trail bike. Jai lost control and died from critical head injuries the following day, with Bryant also receiving a three-year driving ban and his lawyer announcing plans to appeal.
