Barnea's Mossad fuels dozens of simultaneous ops
Brave captain killed as Hezbollah strikes IDF
EU funds Lebanese army with 100m euros
The time is now 5:01 PM in New York, I'm Noa Levi and this is the latest Israel Today: Ongoing War Report.
In Direct Israel-Iran Clashes, former senior Mossad official Ilan Rom says Barnea’s leadership expanded the agency’s capabilities, enabling dozens of operations at once and boosting Israel’s regional influence. Rom described Barnea’s effort as a “revolution of remaking portions of the Mossad,” moving beyond the era when great operations typically ran one at a time and required extensive time and personnel. He noted that with the new structure the agency could carry out and sustain dozens of operations simultaneously, citing examples such as Operation Rising Lion in June 2025, and he said Barnea had a talent for drawing 120 percent out of every sub-commander and agent involved.
In Regional Impacts, the European Union will provide 100 million euros in additional support to the Lebanese army following a ceasefire, a move aimed at strengthening security and stability on the ground.
In the Conflict with Iran and its Regional Proxies, Captain Eitan Shmuel Lemberg, 21, from Mishmar HaShiv’a, was killed in combat in southern Lebanon after a Hezbollah anti-tank missile struck an IDF tank north of the Litani River. He served in the 7th Armored Brigade’s 75th Battalion. The Israeli military said air and artillery strikes on Hezbollah infrastructure followed the incident, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered condolences to Lemberg’s family, calling him a hero. He is the fourth Israeli soldier to be killed this week, following the death of Staff-Sergeant Michael Tyukin earlier in the week when a Hezbollah drone struck in southern Lebanon.
A Serbian UN peacekeeper was killed near Marjayoun in southeastern Lebanon when mortar shells hit a position, and two other UNIFIL personnel were wounded, one from El Salvador and the other from Spain. The UN described the incident as part of ongoing hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel that have reignited since March. The UN Secretary-General condemned the killing of Sergeant Milovan Jovanovic and said those responsible must be held to account; the incident is under investigation and the UN stressed that attacks on peacekeepers are grave violations of international humanitarian law and may amount to war crimes.
In US Policy Concerning Israel, Politico reports that the United States has canceled a delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Germany that had been arranged under the Biden administration, citing fears that Russia would view the move as an escalation and in the context of a broader drawdown of American forces in Europe.
In Antisemitism and Anti-Jewish Hate, a Jewish woman was attacked in a New York City subway, with video showing her being choked and having her hair torn out after a confrontation in which the suspect allegedly questioned passengers about their Jewish identity. Diana Smith of the Bronx was charged with hate crime assault, hate crime criminal obstruction of breathing, and aggravated harassment after making remarks about Jews and “the reflection of a Jew,” then attacking the victim as she was restrained by others. The incident was recorded and publicized by the Combat Antisemitism Movement.
In Antisemitism and Anti-Jewish Hate, the NHS in the United Kingdom faces a forthcoming review by Lord John Mann that urges mandatory antisemitism training for staff and a ban on pro-Palestinian badges to ensure Jewish patients and staff feel safe. The review cites reports of routine ostracism and rising discrimination against Jewish NHS personnel and notes that some Jewish patients have delayed or avoided treatment due to these concerns, presenting 36 recommendations for action.
