A pensioner couple in Torrington were critically injured after being stabbed during a home invasion by an intruder unknown to them. The homeowner defended himself and his wife by shooting the alleged attacker with a shotgun after both sustained serious stab wounds. The 34-year-old accused has been charged with two counts of wounding with intent to murder and remains under police guard in hospital.
