Description
No One Makes the Journey Alone
Most of us can name the person who gets the credit.
We rarely remember everyone who helped make it possible.
When we think about Abram’s journey, we usually think about Abram.
But Genesis 12:5 tells us that Abram and Sarai left Haran with “all the possessions that they had gathered, and the persons whom they had acquired in Haran.”
The Hebrew phrase translated “the persons whom they had acquired” (וְאֶת־הַנֶּפֶשׁ אֲשֶׁר־עָשׂוּ בְחָרָן) is more literally translated as “the people they had made in Haran.”
Not made in the sense of creating people, but in the sense of building relationships, nurturing growth, and creating a community.
God called Abram.
But Abram and Sarai had already spent years building the relationships that would make the journey possible.
Abram and Sarai built the community.
The community made the journey possible.
No one makes the journey alone.
