The Nightmare in the Stained-Glass Window at Saint Dymphna's
Description
In the winter of 1997, Luna's great-aunt Therese called her to the small town of Bridgewater, Illinois, to clean out a condemned church before demolition. Saint Dymphna's had been abandoned for thirty years, but the stained-glass rose window above the altar was still intact. When Luna climbed the bell tower to examine it, she found something trapped inside the lead and glass — a face that had been watching the empty pews since the 1960s. The story follows her overnight vigil in the sanctuary, the discovery of the parish records, and the name scratched into the floorboards beneath the window. It ends with Luna standing in the cold morning light, the window now a dark socket, and the certainty that she has let something out into the world.
