The Cardinals faced off against the Cubs for the first time in 2026 on Friday night and came away with a big 6-5 victory over the North Siders.
The Cubs put up 3 runs on an Ian Happ (big surprise) home run in the first inning, but newly called up Nelson Velasquez made things all square by hitting his own 3-run homer in the bottom of the first, on the very first pitch he saw.
The Cardinals would add homers from Ivan Herrera and Thomas Saggase, and the bullpen did some heavy lifting as 6 relivers combined for 6 innings, 3 hits, and 1 earned run to give the Cards their 30th win of the season
