Vine and Branches (John 15): Growing in Christ Takes Time

Season 8 Episode 21 Published 3 months, 2 weeks ago
Description

"The closer you come to Jesus, the further away you'll feel." Pastor Brad Moodie opens with his brother's grief after ten years on the mission field, still feeling like the same "ugly, selfish man" he was before he left — and names something many long-time Christians feel but rarely say out loud.

Working through John 15's vine and branches, Moodie makes the case that spiritual growth isn't something you can force any more than a plant can grow faster by pulling on its leaves. Growth happens when you stay connected — through prayer, Scripture, and confession — and the results are God's job, not yours. He also draws a careful line between circumstantial "misdirected growth" (honest mistakes God can redirect) and moral failure (which needs pruning), and gives a practical list of what good and bad "spiritual soil" actually look like day to day.
