217: What Your Body Knows That Your Mind Is Trying to Avoid

Episode 217 Published 3 days, 15 hours ago
Description

This one starts with a breath. Three of them, actually. Because what Danie is about to say requires you to slow down enough to actually receive it.

Last weekend, Danie's body broke down. No fever, no throwing up, nothing the mind could point to as a real reason to stop. Just a quiet, persistent signal that something needed attention. And her mind, brilliant and persuasive as ever, had a very long list of reasons to keep going.

What she discovered underneath the physical symptoms wasn't just a virus. It was weeks of accumulated stress she hadn't processed, emotional weight she'd been managing instead of moving through — and a body that had been telling the truth the entire time.

This episode is about what happens when we finally stop arguing with that truth.

The core teaching:

Body intelligence isn't soft. It isn't woo. It is one of the most foundational and underutilized leadership skills available to high-achieving women ("the strong ones") — and most of us have been trained since childhood to override it completely.

We were taught to push through. Lead with logic. Trust the mind. And so we got very, very good at doing exactly that, at the expense of one of the most accurate information sources we have.

The three practical shifts Danie walks through:

1. Slow down enough to notice. Not hours. Five minutes. Before bed, in the morning, during a lunch break. Ask your body what it's feeling and where. That simple act begins rebuilding the connection.

2. Stop labeling it and start asking what it means. Anxiety. Stress. Getting older. These labels shut down the conversation. Instead: What is this trying to tell me? What is my body communicating about this situation, this relationship, this decision?

3. Build a rhythm that gives your body regular space to process. This is where it becomes a leadership practice. When the body has a consistent container to release and process — somatic breathwork, journaling, ritual — it stops accumulating. You stop carrying the backpacks everywhere you go. And your decisions get cleaner, clearer, and more aligned.

Danie also shares one of her favorite metaphors of the episode — her pug Jake shaking through a thunderstorm — and why the instinct to stop him was actually getting in the way of his healing.

If you want to build this rhythm for yourself — not as a crisis response but as a leadership practice — the Sacred CEO Collective does this every single month. The Inner Authority call is the first step.

💬 Reflection Prompt: Where in your body have you been feeling something — tension, heaviness, fatigue, a pit in your stomach — that your mind has been explaining away? What story has your mind been telling you about it? And if you set that story down for a moment and just asked your body what it actually needs — what would it say?
