Council Accused Of Failing To Take Threat Of Hogweed Seriously

A Clare councillor says he doesn't have confidence Clare County Council is taking the threat posed by a harmful plant seriously. Shannonbanks Sinn Féin Councillor James Ryan is making a renewed call for Shannon Municipal District to seek funding to eradicate hogweed which is an invasive species prevalent in the south-east of the county that can cause permanent scarring. Shannon MD says its programme of treatment will continue this year and funding is being sought for these works. Councillor Ryan, who bears a scar he acquired as a child as a result of being exposed to hogweed, doesn't believe these efforts are good enough.
