New Express Lanes & Trail Open on Howard Frankland Bridge
Description
New express lanes just opened on the Howard Frankland Bridge connecting St. Pete and Tampa — free for now, but prepare for 24/7 electronic tolls soon. These northbound lanes run all the way from St. Pete to Tampa, separated by barriers and tucked into I-275. Don’t forget your SunPass — cash and toll-by-plate won’t cut it. And it’s not just cars — a brand new 7-mile pedestrian and bike trail now hugs the north side, offering shaded spots and bay views, open sunrise to sunset. Connections to other trails are still in progress, with a Fourth Street North path expected by late 2026. Southbound lanes are set to open soon — weather permitting. The bridge replacement project is still rolling, with the southbound span already open. Stay alert — it’s still a construction zone.
