Bondi massacre inquiry hears of intelligence failures

Bondi massacre inquiry hears of intelligence failures

Published 3 weeks, 4 days ago
Description
The Royal Commission into the Bondi massacre has heard the Firearms Registry posed a significant risk to public safety when it granted a gun licence to shooter Sajid Akram in 2023. Deputy Commissioner Dave Hudson, the most senior NSW Police officer to appear, accused other agencies of failing to share critical intelligence, with the Federal Police reportedly withholding information about Naveed and Sajid Akram's overseas travel to known terror hotspots. The Commission also heard that more than 1,000 online hate posts targeting Jewish witnesses have been captured for potential investigation, while the next 12 hearings will be held behind closed doors.
