Inside an average bee hive, 80,000 bees are running a 99% female matriarchy. The queen is the only one allowed to have sex, baby queens are made not born, and male drones get kicked out to starve in winter when they stop being useful. Throw in a mid-air sex club, royal jelly, and a waggle dance, and it might just be the most ruthlessly efficient society on earth. This is Just The Gist (MINI!) of a day in the life of a bee.
