Clowns in Peru parade through Lima on May 25th to celebrate National Clown Day, an annual tradition established in 2006. The colourful event honours José Alvarez Vélez, known as Tony Peradol, a beloved Peruvian clown who died on May 25, 1987. Participants march through the streets in bright costumes, red noses and face paint while juggling, dancing and singing.
