Walking in the Light We Have When Darkness Hides the Way

There is a great deal

about life

we do not fully understand.

Why some things happen,

how long this season will last,

or how we’re going

to get through it.

Some things

we see clearly,

and some

not at all.

In the opening chapter of Genesis,

God separates the light

(אוֹר — or)

from the darkness

(חֹשֶׁךְ — choshekh)

(Genesis 1:4).

Darkness and light

exist together,

and the darkness

is separated,

not destroyed.

Darkness here

is not evil.

It is more like obscurity.

Hiddenness.

Mystery.

And the light is not merely brightness.

It is illumination.

Revelation.

There’s darkness

we can’t see through.

But there’s also light.

We are invited

to make use of the light

while we still have it

(John 9:4).

Let us walk in the light

of God’s love,

even while there is much

we can’t see.
